BLOG 10
Dear Blog. Somehow I feel I should apologise to you on the grounds of neglect! It’s been so long since I wrote. A few months! Truth to tell, I’ve been rather busy with life and all that it brings, but mainly I was waiting, patiently, for my second book with Austin Macauley to come to fruition. TROUBLESOME TOM AND THE SNOWMOON, by me of course!
Then it brought me to the realisation of just how much we don’t realise or know about the process from being accepted (or rather, from your story being accepted) to its final emergence in the book form later.
I’ve had a few emails from new authors regarding how long the process takes having been through the developments from beginning to end. Twice with Austin Macauley and once when self publishing when I first began the series. Be patient, I said. We have to realise that ours isn’t the only book the publishers are working on. There’s lots to do too. The Author Questionnaire firstly which requires thought especially if it’s a picture book as each illustration has to be illuminated. You have to try to get the ‘essence’ of your book over. Then there’s what can feel like an eternity until your script comes back with adjustments to be considered. Then another wait. It can take almost a year from beginning to end. But when the book comes in its entirety, it is so worth it.
The different departments at AM are all so very helpful and supportive. They want your book to be a success too.
I am so very pleased with both of my books with Austin Macauley.
So let’s see how it goes eh?
