WHAT MAKES A WRITER.
Tempus Fugit! I cannot believe it was the end of October beginning of November when I last wrote on this blog. November and December were consumed by life! A new baby arrived (my younger daughter’s) Speedily into the world he came! Just like his mother! Then Christmas, so lovely, peaceful, full of warmth, homes, family and friends and that magical excitement of the anticipation of something wonderful happening. So, we slip from our creations in the written word, but create in another area – our relationships with our loved ones. It’s an essential time between so many people lucky enough to have that love, that sense of anticipation, that awe and wonder in life. It’s central to my TROUBLESOME TOM series. It’s what I build into my stories as they are about the real things in life. That’s what I decided when the series came to me. Reality, love, fun and relationships.
I live in Lichfield the cathedral city with the three spired ‘Ladies of the vale’ absolutely beautiful cathedral in the close. So much happens in and around the cathedral at this time of year. I am in awe of the beauty of the music, the song, the lights the stories behind the main events. Stories that last over time. That’s what I want for TROUBLESOME TOM. Stories that last the generations to come. In this city you turn a corner and there’s song, light shows the magnificence of which thousands come to see and breathe in the awe and wonder of the spectacular presentations. The building itself constructed hundreds of years ago by people who never saw its completion. We can only imagine the toil and strife it took to construct such a building. But it has stood the test of time and served many, many generations. That’s what a good story does doesn’t it, it stands the test of time? I hope that like the cathedral in the city I’ve lived in for 35 years, stand the test of time and that they will be as relevant in the years to come as they are now. I am sure they will as the themes are of a global nature and after all some things never change do they…. having a child, watching them grow in a family and in the world….
I thank this city for the warmth, the history, the beauty and the inspiration it gives to my life and my writing. As I sit and my writing space overlooking the gardens, I can see the wonderful spires of the cathedral pointing upwards to the sky aspiring to touch the clouds.
Dream big they say to me. So, I do.
